Welcome to The MacCafferty School of Music, the school that has provided singing lessons for the people of Derry for over sixty years. The school was started by the late James MacCafferty in the late fifties when he started to teach singing, piano and musical theory to young and old alike. Since his demise in the mid nineties the school has been run by his daughter, Una, in whose capable hands it has grown from strength to strength.
The school now focuses on singing and musical theatre classes together with the associated theory for the various examining bodies. The pupils are not required to enter for examinations or to enter for the various feiseanna and the focus is always to make the experience a pleasant and enjoyable one. Music for fun is our intention especially with our younger pupils.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the death of the founder of our school, James MacCafferty, who died on 14th November 1995.
All classes are cancelled at present and we are not sure when our Tuesday classes in the Millennium Forum can restart.
